Jeter is on his way out, some of the others are just pure nutty (A-Rod included), there is a void that needs to be filled pretty soon.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-27447684500472772052010-06-09T19:19:45.037-04:002010-06-09T19:19:45.037-04:00Stop being bitter about Strasburg's 15 million...Stop being bitter about Strasburg's 15 million dollar deal. Amazing that he left the game exactly one minute, literally, before the NBA finals started. David Stern must live right in spite of his financial and vocal support of the WNBA.

I hope Strasburg makes it in spite of the fact his agent makes Lucifer look like mother Teresa. But lets wait just a little until Cooperstown begins construction on the Steven Strasburg wing. It was one incredible game. One of those games that fans remember forever. No place deserves a star baseball player more than DC. DC had gotten a reputation as a bad baseball town for the wrong reasons. the fans are great its the teams that have been bad.

But I have two words for Nats fans to remember .... Kerry Wood. His debut and first season was impressive as well including breaking the one game strike out record. Cubs fans of which I am one, expected Wood to pitch 200 innings a year for 15 years. Due to injury it didn't turn out quite like we all hoped.

Remember last nights game for what it was; one of the all time great pitching performances! Keep things in perspective and lets look at him in five years. I hope he wins 300+ games and makes everyone forget about Roger Clemmons. Let him pitch 6 no hitters... one short of the Ryan express. But lets not get ahead of ourselves.

One other thing the number of comments on yesterdays tennis blog is a sad comment about the place tennis has on the sports landscape.Gordonnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-86601575534113150792010-06-09T17:02:08.584-04:002010-06-09T17:02:08.584-04:00I hope that the Nationals will become a unifying e...I hope that the Nationals will become a unifying element for all communities in DC like the Redskins. The Nationals still seem to only draw the VA, Capitals-fan type crowd. I would love to see Sports Announcer James Brown, who is a Nats partner with the Lerner’s, take a more visible role in promoting the team throughout the city. As a Black American, I love baseball. Hank Aaron was and is a personal hero. I lament that baseball doesn't seem to grab my community’s interest anymore. Last time I feel like baseball mattered to the Black Community was the Willie Stargell '79 Pirates. Last night we watched the Nats game at a sports pub in PG county. The NBA playoffs were being shown side by side with the later innings of the Nats game. It was quite clear (by the amount of cheers at high points during both games) that white folks we there for baseball and black folks were there for the NBA. Around the water cooler today at work same observation, Black folks talked Kobie. White folks Strasburg. You never see this with the Redskins. Knowing black histories impact on the game and how it important is was back in the day, when did Black people stop caring? Does Ken Burns or Clarence Page know? This game is too good, and I am saddened that a generation of kids are missing it.Derrellnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-37087701413889296272010-06-09T15:15:23.692-04:002010-06-09T15:15:23.692-04:00As a Reds' fan somewhat resentful of Strasburg...As a Reds' fan somewhat resentful of Strasburg's being hyped daily while Mike Leake's remarkable rookie season lives in the shadows, I viewed his debut with skepticism and with my Schadenfruede locked and loaded.

Time to unlock and unload - kind of like the Pirates bats did.

The funny thing is, as tired as I was of hearing about Strasburg, I watch a lot of Nats' games on "extra innings" and have been enjoying their relative success this year. And now, after witnessing The Kid's performance and the thrills it garnered from the packed house, I have to admit to being very satisfied that he was worthy of the hype, and even a little bit happy for him!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-82829462268996877302010-06-09T13:05:56.786-04:002010-06-09T13:05:56.786-04:00Did Drew Storen ever comment about Tony K's de...Did Drew Storen ever comment about Tony K's description of his relative Hannah Storm/Storen?Mr. Xhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14569678172337776306noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-40212342000657446142010-06-09T12:23:21.467-04:002010-06-09T12:23:21.467-04:00Good recap - it's interesting to know that Str...Good recap - it's interesting to know that Strasburg may be shy in how he deals with the media and maybe even fans, and that he doesn't have contempt for thosw 'duties.'

It would be great to see this kid, and all the other Nats, live up to the hype to some measure of success.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-28083442435696266322010-06-09T12:12:00.772-04:002010-06-09T12:12:00.772-04:00Why pick the subject of John Wooden upon which to ...Why pick the subject of John Wooden upon which to stop repeating yourself on every platform?Jeremyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/10019925360757042114noreply@blogger.com
