I wonder how many thousands of youngsters living in poor or rural areas were denied access to the Open except for those terrible condensed versions aired on ABC.wsum22https://www.blogger.com/profile/12451018369303070955noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-57978020954117327792010-07-20T08:33:47.231-04:002010-07-20T08:33:47.231-04:00The problem I have with the coverage on ESPN is th...The problem I have with the coverage on ESPN is the incessant babble Azinger and Strange spew forth. As a Directv subscriber I was fortunate to have access to the European feed supplied by the BBC. The difference in the announcers is startling. Evidently the announcers on ESPN must think they are paid by the word. The understated BBC broadcast featured golf not the analysts. The only downfall was that the picture quality was better on the ESPN feed.
As I was watching with my 11 year old son I noticed that he liked the ESPN version better than the BBC version. His stated reason was that he liked all the ESPN graphics since it was like a video game. I am very much a new media, digital native guy, but I really hate the overkill of all the ESPN graphics. The BBC understated style was so refreshing.Dave Lepistohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14390639074901094534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-18250470698436084032010-07-20T00:19:21.286-04:002010-07-20T00:19:21.286-04:00So late Friday BSPN sends Rocco out on the fairway...So late Friday BSPN sends Rocco out on the fairways to cover an Italian golfer. The announcers yuck it up - you know the Italian angle, even mentioning something like "It's 7:15, pasta time in St Andrews".

How many careers would have been ruined if BSPN sent Tirico out to cover Tiger and someone makes a comment like "The watermelon will taste great after this round", with everyone laughing it up - similar to the pasta comment.

I'm not Italian, but where in today's silly PC world does it say it's OK to still have it both ways when it comes to goofing on races other than black, hispanic, asian, or muslin?ARCstatsnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-10937335668473521202010-07-19T18:45:39.470-04:002010-07-19T18:45:39.470-04:00The tee times were late on Sat. because they delay...The tee times were late on Sat. because they delayed the tournament on Fri. because of high winds. Otherwise they would've finished at least an hour and a half earlier. It was a fluke of the weather rather than a plan to play later in the day for better ratings.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-69139476997886593952010-07-19T17:00:38.548-04:002010-07-19T17:00:38.548-04:00Not sure if you saw, but on Friday evening, after ...Not sure if you saw, but on Friday evening, after the coverage of Tom Watson crossing the Swilcan Bridge, ESPN cut to Tiger missing his eagle putt on 18 and flipping his putter in frustration. He didn't quite catch it, and I couldn't tell but thought perhaps he gouged the green a bit in doing so. Just thought it was a wonderful contrast of how TO behave on the course (Watson) vs. how NOT to (Woods).John Lnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-23931728313381424532010-07-19T16:26:52.423-04:002010-07-19T16:26:52.423-04:00"And if you didn’t choke up at least a little..."And if you didn’t choke up at least a little bit when he opened his victory speech by wishing Nelson Mandela a happy 92nd birthday then you have no sense of history at all."

How true.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-980010523927297374.post-77468334095792878502010-07-19T12:43:36.846-04:002010-07-19T12:43:36.846-04:00ESPN was terrible from start to finish –- it's...ESPN was terrible from start to finish –- it's disgusting how they think people want to see their pretty faces instead of, you know, golf shots -- but I wouldn't blame them for the late tee times on Saturday.
