I have to agree with Mr. Tony that Dean Smith probably wasn't the best analogy to Urban Meyer as far as someone retiring and not coming back. Better examples might be Al McGuire, Pete Newell, Darrell Royal, John Madden, Bob Devaney, Frank Broyles and Ara Parshegian, all of whom were championship winning coaches who left on their own accord (ie weren't fired) at relatively young ages, and never returned to coaching. Like Meyer, at least a couple of theses coaches (Newell, Parshegian, Madden) had health concerns at the time they stepped down from their jobs. Interesting that they all got into either broadcasting and/or athletic administration -- there's only so much quality time that you can spend with the family!
I do agree that he will be back in coaching, sooner rather than later. In fact, I think the U is probably kicking itself right about now, wishing they had kept Randy Shannon for another year, letting him go after next season so that they could swoop up Urban.
Thanks for the explanation on why Navy, as an independent, would commit to the Military Bowl (or whatever it will be called) two years in advance. Since it's not exactly a prestigious game, Navy's decision didn't make sense to me when I first heard it, but now I can see the rationale for wanting to lock up bowl games.
Another point, off-topic to your radio interviews. I read Wilbon's farewell WaPo column the other day, and was surprised that he didn't mention your name. He did manage to note several of his former and current colleagues, so your absence was all the more jarring. You guys worked together for 30 years, more or less? Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but it seems hard to believe it was simple oversight on Wilbon's part ....

You were right on about the state of Maryland fans these days. Seems like their will only be a big crowd for a Non-ACC game if we are ranked in the top 10 and there is some buzz. I'm in the company that will watch every game and am always excited about the new recruits.
I've been to the Junior classic a bunch of times. Including the year that MD took down Kansas, that crowd was fired up. Keep up the great work, thanks!
